Existing Businesses2020-07-20T12:24:52+01:00

You may already be working for yourself, officially or unofficially. We can support existing businesses during their first 3 years of trading, including registering with HMRC if this needs to be done.

Registering Your Business

There’s nothing wrong with testing a business idea for a while, to see if it can be profitable, but be cautious.

It’s okay to start working for yourself without registering with HMRC, but once you earn £1,000 this needs to be done.

Our mentors can help you register, whether that be as a sole-trader, limited company, community interest group or something else.

1-1 Business Advice

Our mentors have experience running their own businesses and understand the journey you are going through. They understand the challenges you face and what support you need, so you don’t have to feel intimidated. We often receive feedback saying each of our mentors are friendly and provide practical, hands-on advice that can be put into immediate effect.

The Propeller Hub

The Propeller Hub is the centre of our enterprising community, with existing businesses working from the heart of UCLan. We have hot-desk and dedicated rental desk options to meet different needs, with benefits such as IT and telephony; networked PC’s; meeting rooms and pods; a UCLan trading address; lockers and kitchen facilities.

Business Networking

Finding and creating opportunities to meet with other business owners, potential suppliers and new customers is vital for all businesses, and the Propeller monthly networking event is a great opportunity to do this regularly. We invite guest speakers to talk about different topics each month, so check out the event’s page to see what is coming up!

Workshops and Skills Development

Even if you have an existing business, there may be areas you want to improve upon. We offer two types of workshops – the Propeller Enterprise Programme and Bite-sized Briefings.

Although the Propeller Enterprise Programme is essentially a 6-step programme to start a business, you may still find the content useful; just be aware that it is aimed at beginners. Additionally, the Bite-sized Briefings are designed to cover specific topics that can be seen as ‘add-ons’ to the main offering. These are great, short workshops that look at skill refinement.

UCLan Business

If you already work with Propeller, there is a high likelihood that you are eligible for support with other UCLan Business projects too. Talk to your mentor to find out what will be most helpful to you, or visit the UCLan Business page to see upcoming events.

Can I use the Propeller Hub?

The Propeller Hub is usually open to students, alumni and commercial businesses.

Students currently get free hot-desks, but should only use them for enterprise activity. For a charge, hot desks and rental desks are available to businesses and pre-startups.

The Propeller Hub is currently closed due to COVID-19. Social distancing measures will be in place when we return.
