The new space
This week has been a special week for the Propeller Team as we have officially opened our new incubation space! On the 4th Floor of the Media Factory, the Propeller Hub a dedicated working space with desks, kitchen facilities, equipment use, boardroom hire and printing.
The space has changed rather drastically, with the addition of a second kitchen, media booths, an area for private working and a casual seating area perfect for meeting clients. We think the new space is stylish, functional, ideal for group working and we can’t wait to see whether you agree!
Getting the tenants back in
With 66 hot-deskers and 14 rent-a-deskers, having the hub out of commission over the summer was a bit of a nightmare. All of our existing tenants were relocated to offices and classrooms around the Media Factory. This provided a pretty good temporary solution, but as staff returned from their holidays, the clock was really ticking to have things return to normal.
We began moving tenants back into the space at the beginning of October. Needless to say, they were as eager as we were to see the new space.
Launch event
So why are you only hearing about it now? The first few weeks was all about our clients: getting them settled in, checking that the space still works for them and trouble-shooting any niggling technical issues.
With that over and done with, on Monday 22nd of October Vice Chancellor Liz Bromley officially opened the Propeller Hub in a ribbon-cutting ceremony. Liz’s speech touched on a few proud points for UCLan, namely that we are the top university in the North West for incubating sustainable start-ups. With the help of Propeller and the rest of Innovation & Enterprise, we can fulfil the need for experiential learning alongside academia to achieve UCLan’s goal of being the top business incubator in the UK by 2020.
Become a tenant
The Propeller Hub is free to use for students and alumni who have graduated within the past 6 months. For those who graduated more than 6 months ago, a small fee applies to use the space (£20.83 for hot desking, or £80.83 for dedicated desk space per month).
Not only do you get use of the space and facilities, but you can receive advice from our mentors and attend our workshops and events.
