As children dress up as their favourite book characters and many people batten down for a day of solid reading, we asked our team what books they would recommend to start-ups.

Craig recommends:
The Best Small Business Accounts Book: For a non-VAT Registered Small Business by Peter Hingston
“If you don’t like IT, Excel or spreadsheets and your business is turning over less than £85k, this is a great book for keeping records and understanding accounting.”

Liz recommends:
Positive Psychology in a Nutshell: The Science Of Happiness by Ilona Boniwell
“An amazing little book filled with techniques and tricks for dealing with those difficult days and trying times in the big scary world. Dead easy to read and there’s a new theory or technique every two pages.”
Joe recommends:
The Personal MBA: A World-Class Business Education in a Single Volume by Josh Kaufman
Brilliant Business Ideas by Joseph Benn
“I based my entire workshop off this book! Also, the author’s a very handsome man, if I do say so myself.”

And I can’t very well let them have all the fun. Here’s my own recommendation.
Toni recommends:
Assertiveness at Work: A Practical Guide to Handling Awkward Situations by Ken and Kate Back
“As someone who lacks tact, talking to people can be a nightmare. This book is full of helpful advice for what to say and do. Remembering to follow the advice in any given situation is where things get difficult!”
